Interdisciplinary Department(s)

When prefix = UCONJ (owned by Department: University Conjoint, College: Interschool or Intercollege Programs) or CONJ (owned by Department: Human Biology, College: School of Medicine), an “Interdisciplinary Department/s” field shows up on the form.

For UCONJ, select all the relevant departments that need to review and approve this proposal in the “Interdisciplinary Department/s” field. Nobody is assigned to roles in the “University Conjoint” department nor the “Interschool or Intercollege Programs” College so the user must add Interdisciplinary Departments in order to get the proposal properly routed. The proposals will route through the academic units’ hierarchy.

For CONJ, select any additional departments (besides Human Biology) that will need to review and approve the proposal.

Interdisciplinary College/School(s)

The “Interdisciplinary College/Schools” field shows up when the user enters any of the following prefixes on their course proposal: BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG, G H, MARBIO

Nobody is assigned to roles in the School/College for “Interschool or Intercollege Programs” so the user must add the Interdisciplinary Colleges/Schools in order to get the proposal properly routed.  Users are assigned to roles in all of the below colleges/schools.

For G H, add “School of Public Health” and “School of Medicine” colleges/schools.

For BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG courses, the user needs to add “College of Engineering” and “School of Medicine”.

For MARBIO, add “College of the Environment”

Routing proposals to Interdisciplinary Departments for Other Curricular Relationships

If you are adding a course with a CONJ or UCONJ prefix as an overlapping, equivalent or jointly offered course, you should add the department/s that are offering the course (e.g. Add “School of Medicine” and “Dentistry” if they are offering the UCONJ course. Do NOT add “Conjoint” nor “University Conjoint” “units” as there is nobody assigned to the workflow roles in those).

If you are going to add any courses managed by departments in the  “Interschool or Intercollege Programs” College (Prefixes: UCONJ, G H, BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG, MARBIO) as an overlapping, equivalent or jointly offered course, you should add their corresponding overlapping, equivalent or jointly offered department (e.g. “Global Health” for G H courses) but you will need to obtain the college level acknowledgements offline and then attach evidence of their review and acknowledgment to your proposal.

  • For G H courses you need to obtain offline acknowledgement from the “School of Public Health” and “School of Medicine”.
  • For BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG course, you need to obtain offline acknowledgement from “College of Engineering” and “School of Medicine”.
  • For MARBIO courses you need to obtain offline acknowledgement from the “College of the Environment”

UW CM Curricular Relationships

Step 1.   Enter the course prefix

UW CM will automatically populate the department field with the department that owns the respective prefix. The department field directs the workflow (approval process).

Workflow of Approval Process

Pick the College/School that is the parent to the Department in the SDB academic organization hierarchy.

Step 2.   Enter the Interdisciplinary Department/s or Interdisciplinary College/School(s)

If your department prefix is UCONJ (owned by Department: University Conjoint, College: Interschool or Intercollege Programs) or CONJ (owned by Department: Conjoint, College: School of Medicine), an Interdisciplinary Department field will appear.

For UCONJ and CONJ, select all the relevant departments that need to review and approve this proposal to the Interdisciplinary Department(s) field. The proposals will route through the academic units’ hierarchy.

Interdisciplinary Departments

The Interdisciplinary College/Schools field will appear if your college/school prefix is BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG, G H, or MARBIO. Choose the College/School that is the parent to the department in the academic organization hierarchy.

Interdisciplinary Colleges/Schools

The “Interdisciplinary College/Schools” field shows up for most of the prefixes in College O (Interschool and Intercollege Programs): Prefix=BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG, G H, or MARBIO

For G H, add “School of Public Health” and “School of Medicine” colleges/schools.

For BIOEN, PHARBE, MEDENG courses, the user needs to add “College of Engineering” and “School of Medicine”.

For MARBIO, add “College of the Environment”

Note:  When routing through multiple colleges, the proposal will need to be signed off by each college before it progresses to the University.
